Injury
A blow to the face can send shock waves through the skull, fracturing the front teeth. Other more severe injuries can result in serious trauma including concussion, jaw and gum damage.
Protection
That’s why athletes who use mouth guards/gum shields are at less risk of serious oral injury following a blow to the face. Many sports organisations, clubs and schools have made it compulsory for athletes to use mouthguards, ensuring that they are protected at all times.
Our mouth guards/gum shields are available in a range of standard colours, giving you the option to choose your favourite colour or team colours. Please note that some colours are only available in certain thicknesses. Our technicians will advise you accordingly depending on your age and sport which thickness is best for you.
Effective
Generally, gum shields cover your upper teeth only, but in some instances (such as if you wear braces on your lower jaw), we will make a mouth guard/gum shield for the lower teeth as well. An effective gum shield should be comfortable, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech. Feel free to discuss any concerns at your free consultation.
